Canadian Politics….American Style

Ontario has decided that it will hold fixed elections and B.C. is already doing this. The case for fixed elections is simple; you stop the government from calling a vote when the polls look good in their favor. The downside is that you have a very long unofficial campaign as the opposition knows when voters will head to the polls and acts accordingly to try to woo them. If Stephen Harper does not force an election and we wait till January for the writ to drop as the Prime Minister promised last night then what you will have is an unofficial election campaign for 9 months. This is how it is in the United States when the next election campaign begins the day after the last one.
